Michael Harris was born into a musical world in the Ohio heartland. Exposed
to jazz influences by his father, (a big band leader), and classical music by
his mother, (a piano and flute instructor), he became serious about music when
he took up the trumpet at age 11. Playing in the school band for three years,
Michael's future was altered forever when he discovered the guitar. He became
instantly obsessed, and in 6 months had formed his first band with high school
friends.
Michael had his first taste of musical success immediately following his high
school graduation, performing with several local bands on a regular basis. It
was around the time that he started teaching guitar, and he hasn’t looked
back yet, as he has now been teaching professionally for over 20 years.
Michael formed Arch Rival in the 80s, who, with the release of two EPs and
three full length CDs, gained massive commercial and critical success in Europe
and Japan. After recording his debut solo CD, “Defense Mechanizms” in 1991 and
touring the country with Chastain / Harris around the same time, Michael moved
to Dallas, Texas, where he currently resides. He has now recorded four more
solo CDs since his migration, and has two active versions of his live band,
“The Michael Harris Tranz-Fusion”, while still spending much of his time instructing
others on guitar. For more information on Michael, visit michaelharrisguitar.com.
